Deep Blue 2018
Vineyard Region : Shanxi & Ningxia
Grape Variety : 61% Merlot, 34% Cabernet sauvignon, 2.5% Marselan, 2.5% Cabernet Franc
Length/Type of Fermentation :
Fruits source from our low yielding, self manage vineyards in Shanxi & Ningxia. A rather dry vintage for Ningxia, it offers good structure in the blend, for some year it can be too bold & abrasive if we let it stand alone. For 2018, due to slightly cold-ish year of the harvest, Shanxi fruits contribute a rather floral & spiciness characteristic to the final blend of our Deep Blue 2018.
Length/Type of Aging : 15 months barrel aging in French oak. 20% New French Oak + 35% 1 Year old oak + 45% 2 to 3 years old oak. A small proportion of the wine were fermented in concrete vat.
Tasting Note : Dark red in color with crimson hue. Upfront notes of primary fruits characteristic of dark plums, sweet berries fruits, cassis & herbal notes. The structure is intense, with great amount of refines tannin & fruitiness. The 20% New oak barely appear on the nose during this tasting, but rather act as a supporting role for the primary fruits flavors. Persistence and lengthy finish.
"Grace Vineyard Deep Blue" is a very personal wine for Judy. When She began at Grace Vineyard at 24 years old, she felt as though she was trying to survive in a vast ocean. Instead of being discouraged by the challenge ahead of her, she was inspired and strengthened (and a bit terrified!). The Book Blue Ocean Strategy showed her that being an outsider could be a strength, not a weakness, and helped her chart a course that she has been on ever since and this wine is named in the book's honor.
In 2008, Grace Vineyard Deep Blue was available to in-flight services of Cathay Pacific Airways first class and business class.
